Friendship–Toxic Friends

April 14, 2016

Friendship–friend- is a very  strange and I think missed used word. The dictionary defines friend ” a person whom one knows well and is fond of,intimate associate, close acquaintance, supporter, ally etc.

We all have friends, acquaintances–and we may put expectations that can’t be met.

We expect them to be there all the time  when we need them, through thick and thin and usually one or two are there for you.  However,  I think most people forget that the friend may have a life that is very different from yours–and maybe they don’t understand  where you are coming from.   They do expect you to be there for them but not necessarily  there for you.

And when you might miss a beat they are extremely upset.  They are the ones that when you hang up phone, you can never be right–and many times you end up feeling badly. For NO  really reason.

They are toxic friends for they really only make you feel badly–you are always giving but never receiving.  Friendship should go both ways.  And we all have toxic friends.  Some relationships are so one sided that you are afraid to admit they exist.

You should make a list of them, stand back and look at the relationships, and decide who you have to get rid of if possible.  The only way that you can grow is to surround yourself with people who care about you and what you do, where you want to go in your life.

If you can’t completely get rid of them, then develop skills to handle them–throw an invisible shield up when they are around and listen but don’t take it in!!! When the talk just sort of listen and don’t let the negative enter your sole.

Good luck, I working on getting rid of negative  people in my life–I wish you the best.
